Community Safety Accreditation Scheme: Refresher Training

Eighteen months ago TFS (TFS) and Skills for Security (SfS) proudly announced the launch of a unique fast track training programme that meets the requirements laid down by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO).

A diverse client list including G4S Manned Guarding, Daventry Crime Partnership, The London Borough of Hounslow, Carlisle Security, Brunel University, Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, General Security, The London Borough of Croydon and Waitrose have enjoyed the obvious benefits of the blended learning approach. Recently the Metropolitan Police have approved the TFS online Refresher programme that demonstrates an acceptable level of competence for Community Safety Accreditation Scheme (CSAS) re-licensing.

Following extensive mapping between the SIA licensing requirements for guards and door supervisors and the requirements of the Home Office CSAS approved individuals are able to obtain certification by completion of a short course of study and portfolio of evidence. With no work abstractions or classroom based activities the programme provides a significant return on investment. Organisations with CSAS certified staff can seek company accreditation with Chief Officers of police, approval of which can lead to the application of basic police powers including, for example, the regulation of traffic, confiscation of alcohol and the power to remove abandoned motor vehicles.

Non-SIA licensed individuals can also obtain the award by undertaking the online programme and completing a one-day classroom based Personal Safety programme. An abridged version for volunteers engaged within community safety and public protection roles is also available in the form of a standalone CD ROM, completion of which provides the primary skills necessary for safe event deployment and a pathway to full CSAS status.
